I am fairly happy with the amount of posts that we are getting out at the moment, but obviously a few more a month would be great. As you have probably seen, we have just finished our starting time and now we are going into how it will be normally, the views have reduced from 20 to around 7 views a day on average. Do not fear though, something good is coming for all us UK kids.

Very, very soon a lot of the writers here will break up from school for the summer holidays. This means more posts, so we can start getting are views back up! I am intending to write a proper post soon, not one about teknocast.

For those of you that are not aware of what vidzone is, it is a new application for the ps3 this application brings the user hundreds of free music video to there finger tips. From rock to classical this application has it all. This is yet another amazing application if not the best. In fact im using it while typing this it is a brillant application and whatever you llike its on there. “even fallout boy or for the  girls lady ga ga”  But it dosent stop there, there are hundreds of thousands of music video including thriller by micheal jackson, and the rest of his songs.  This application gives you an unlimited amount of playlists and on each you can have as many songs as you want or need. you cant copy them, but for a small amount you can pay to have them transfered to your mobile phone. This is a one off fee and then you can copy as many as you like or need. This application gives you three different fields to search for your songs; by name of video, by artist and by genre so. If there is a song you want to find, you’ll find it. The best thing about this application is free, you just have to download it. An amazing application for free just another reason to buy the PS3.

Mini Browser Reviews

Hello everyone, my name is Alex and this is going to be my first post here at Teknocast. Well every once in a while i do a mini reviews about the current web browser and well today i am going to be doing another one at the same time giving this as my first blog post on this site. By mini reviews, i mean point out the good and bad parts of the browser and who it is made for.
Today i will be doing experiences with the following browsers: Windows Internet Explorer 8 (On Vista and 7), Mozilla Firefox 3.5 (On Vista, 7, and Mac OS 10.5), Safari 4 (On Windows Vista, 7, and Mac OS 10.5), and Google Chrome (Vista, 7, and Mac OS 10.5).

Windows Internet Explorer 8

Well Internet Explorer.. it needs word still. To start off on this, it’s the performance. This is one area that i think IE needs word on big time (comparing to the performance of the other browsers). Its good if your going to be doing just basic browsing and with no tabs but it’s bad if you use it all the time and the experience is not going to be as fast. Whenever i try to open a new tab, there is always this lag that annoys me on IE. Why can’t it instantly pop up like every other browser? I don’t know, it just annoying. It does that on every PC i use. Though i do not understand why this problem is on the XP and Vista versions of Windows. The problem seems to be almost fixed on the Beta and Release Candidate versions of Windows 7. As for rendering websites, it tends to break on a few of them every once in a while. The performance like i said, is good for basic needs but it’s not the best and there is always something better. The UI is nice on Windows 7. But it can be cleaner.
Pros:
Good for basic browsing
It’s improving
Windows 7 ready
Cons:
Still needs to pass the Acid 3 Test
Needs to be quicker and smoother on all aspects
UI can be cleaned up a bit.

Mozilla Firefox 3.5

Okay, Mozilla Firefox is the best browser if you want full customization and full control (well almost) of everything. It is now being supported in allot of websites. It is a great open source alternative from Internet Explorer. The browser is great. Hardly any flaws not to use it. If you don’t like the UI of the browser. Well change it. Find a theme you like and change it up a bit and make it you. There are allot of Add Ons for this browser that you can stop ads from showing up and well make your web experience how you want it. I recommend this to anyone.
Pros:
Fully Customizable
Every new version tends to keep up to date standards and features
Multi Platform (Windows, Mac, and Linux supported)
Cons:
Start up time of the browser can still be improved
Does not take advantage of the Windows 7 taskbar.

Apple Safari 4

Safari can grow into people if they tend to start using it everyday. It is included with every Mac and well it’s great for the average user or power user. It is once of the few browsers to me that still have a clean and simple UI since the start of the browser. I don’t have much to say about it but this is a really nice browser but you are restricted a bit though. On the Mac, you can only have Google on the search, you can’t add Yahoo or any other provider. While on Windows you can only choice from Yahoo and Google. I don’t see it much as a problem since majority uses Google. Plus Safari tends to crash out of no where randomly about half the time i use it. I recommend this for just about anyone to be honest. Just that there PC has to be not slow.
Pros:
Starts up really quick
It is up to date with standards
Safari UI is now native on Windows.
Supports the tab feature on the Windows 7 Taskbar.
Cons:
Can be more freedom on some aspects
The performance can be a tiny tiny bit better.
Can use a bit less RAM
Not supported as many websites as Firefox

Google Chrome (3)

Okay i don’t have much to stay about Chrome at this moment since this version is still being developed so anything can happen when it officially releases. (Note: Mac version is not finished when i post this). But Safari has a very very clean UI. It’s very simple to use. The search box is intergraded with the URL box so you can just search from the URL box. I recommend this for the average user.
Pros:
The fastest browser
Can be lightweight
Multi Platform (Windows Version is stable, Mac and Linux still in dev)
Cons:
Unsure if you can trust the security of Google
The UI is not really customizable.

Well there you have it people reading this. That is my mini reviews just saying the good parts and the bad parts. (Sorry, as for Opera, yes its fast but i will test it later on once its close to be out of Beta).

New Game for Vitality Sensor

Wii Vitality, which will ship some time next year, has been announced as the first game for the Wii Vitality Sensor. Details are limited at the time but do include the following:

  • can check relaxation level and show onscreen as a human figure filled with blue water if player is stressed and green water if player is calm
  • can tell if player is breathing in or out according to blood flow
  • features a metronome utilized in breathing exercises

When I spoke to a friend about the possibilities for the sensor, he actually mentioned a good idea that I had not thought of. If Nintendo brought back Eternal Darkness and the sensor could check your heart rate and incorporate it into the game life somehow, that could be interesting. That got me thinking about it’s possibilities in survival horror games. Games could be designed to scare you and test your fear level. If you get to afraid, you lose. It’s kind of like that game show “The Chair” or something like that. If contestant’s heart rate went up too high they lost. But it seems like Nintendo went in the other direction on this game, relaxation not stimulation. Not much more is known at the time. But to me it sounds like the major idea behind this game is as my son would say, “You just need to calm down.” Right at the moment I’m scratching my head on this one and waiting for more info. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Toki Tori (WiiWare) Review

Toki Tori is on Wiiware and iPhone. The game sees you guiding Toki Tori in this puzzle game to find eggs.
The game (On Wiiware) is either controller with just the Wiimote or Wiimote and Nunchuk. If you have the Nunchuk in the anolog stick is used to move Toki Tori around and Z an C are used to cycle through your items. If you are using the wiimote by itself you point and click to moke Toki Tori and shake the mote left and right to swap items.
In the game there are 4 worlds which make up about 80 levels so there is a lot to do. Each world has a different theme which are a forest, castle, sewer and under the sea.
The graphics are amazing (For what it is. It doesn’t need HD, 1080P, 1080i or whatever you want to call it) while the music is relaxing and gives you a feal for the world you are on (Even if there are only 5 music tracks including the title music).
Items in the game play a big part in solving the levels and progressing. Items are also imaganative from the very beginning such as the bridge builder which automaticly creates a bridge over an empty space in front of you. The enamies are also important in the game but not as much in the start then the end. In the last level you have have to freeze an enamy at just the right time so it floats up and acts as a platform. You could just make a bridge but if you do that you won’t have enough bridges to get all the eggs so it has been thought out well so you find things difficult when you need to.
Ok time for the score. This game diserves 9/10 and is a deffinate WiiWare buy. It is an amazingly good game but just a little too fustrating at times.

Teknocast News #1

So recently you have probably seen some new things around the website. In the future we hope to improve it more, to make it look better and such.

Something that is already excellent is the banner that you can see at the top of this page. That was made by a great person called Dries, pronounced d-rea-s. I had contacted him asking him if he would like to be a writer, he declined that but said he’d help with the website and graphics. So I found a theme that looked good and could have a custom banner, then Dries made us an awesome banner! Thank you Dries.

I have previously said that we have many writers, we do, but up until Sunday I was the only one to post. Many thanks to Chellemo for being the first to post! I think her article is excellent and you should definitely go check it out! Another writer that made their debut was Tim (g1ng3r), he is a very good friend of mine. He may have some biased opinions, but who doesn’t?

A new feature should be coming to Teknocast this week. Keep checking back this week for it. Lastly I’d like to say that on Monday we had a record breaking 50 views! That’s more than double our previous record of 21. Keep checking back for our newest articles!

Gamers Thoughts

For all of you people who are addicted to games, like me this post is for you. I’m going to hopefully cover all the the games and the consoles pro’s and con’s and try to hold back my personal opinion and base it on facts.

This week Im going to talk about Call of Duty 5. Ok, it’s old, some would say out of date, but I think it is still a really good game. Its co-op and online play are amazing and the graphics are excellent! This first person shooter unlike any other gives you a realistic view of the period it represents. Others would claim Haze is relistic or Halo, but as they are future based they cant be accurate; as cod5 has no room for artistic interpretation. Many others and I are waiting for the much antisipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as it promises to extend the gameplay of COD4 with more modern stories and keep the amazing graphics that were in its predessor.

Microsoft’s Xbox. Until recentely I was a PS3 lover and still am, but I have to hand it to Xbox! They have some really cool games, I’m a huge fan of Halo although I don’t own a Xbox (I shortly hope to) as I cant stand to not be playing it. It’s abilty to be able to let you do what you want is unmatched in any game. It has outstanding online play to cater for whatever mood you’re in or just what you feel like playing, its abilty to mix the game with the maps as well as being able to play your own and share them in lobby is amazing. Halo is purely unmatched!

Nintendo’s DSi is supposed to change how you see the DS, but what’s changed? Well the outside has lost is shine in order to reduce the hundreds of finger prints on it and it has gained a camera; which promises you interactive game play…

Wii it hit the world in it’s face and its still trying to stand up the Wii’s demand was incredible in the year it hit the market and the demand kept growing! It changed the way people of all ages saw gaming, it got the old moving, the parents buying and never fails to entertain at a party. Also it was a hit with the kids and the simple, yet addictive, games kept stacking up. The Wii didn’t fail to impress; a low prise and a great console. Wii Fit, the product that counldn’t be brought through demand, for the first 3 months until demand final saw a small decrease. This excited childen, look good to adults and makes for a heck of a laugh with the family.

PS3 my personal favourite! Easy to use, fun to use and the graphics are amazing, but sony failed to leave a big enough margin on the 60 GB console and the price wouldn’t shift as it was already high. So Sony made a 40 and 80 version by taking short cuts like removing SD card slots and 2 USB ports and the ability to read PS2 games, they were able to make a bigger margin and the customer saw a difference in the price. If you ask me the 60 GB is better, but it really makes no difference as all PS3s offer outsanding graphics and amazing exclusive games, so if you have the money they are well worth it, for the exclusive title Little Big Planet and amazing graphis, Blu Ray if you can afford one buy one.

See you next time!

The Legendary Master Sword

Those of you who know me already know this. For those of you who don’t, let me just say that Chellemo is a Zelda freak. I was extremely unhappy that there was no news of a new Zelda for Wii at Nintendo’s press conference at E3 this year. However, happily I can say that all is not lost. Following the press conference Shigeru Miyamoto released conceptual artwork for a new Zelda game for Wii. It was stated that it was not announced at the press conference due to the fact that they have no actual game footage to reveal at this time. Thursday this concept art was released to the public.

Read the IGN article here:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/992/992063p1.html

With the new artwork comes much speculation about Link’s trusty Master Sword. The backbone of his strength and symbol of his purity and heroism, could it be a thing of the past? Who is this female figure bearing the markings of the tremendous weapon of all weapons? I would like to ponder these thoughts as I anticipate the new game release. The master sword is as much “Legend of Zelda” as Link or Zelda herself. I am not sure how I feel about the absence or restructure of such a necessary icon. From the beginning it was Link’s destiny to pair up with this mighty sword and avenge good against evil. As a matter of fact he had to be the chosen one to even remove it from its safeguard. There is a lot of speculation that the female image on the released artwork appears to be the soul or spirit, if you will, of the legendary Master Sword. What does this mean? Has the Master Sword been destroyed and this is all that’s left to guide Link? Is it completely intact with new magic to boast? If the Master Sword is no more, I’m afraid that it is only the beginning of things that we will see change for Link. Whether or not these changes will be to the benefit of the series is left to be seen. On the other hand, if the sword now has a voice and personality are we ready for this? I’m trying to decide if I like the idea of this personification. How about you? How does it make you feel to be formally introduced to the legend that has lived so long in your imagination? I’m going to follow the developments and post more here as information becomes available. Stay tuned.
