Hello everyone, my name is Alex and this is going to be my first post here at Teknocast. Well every once in a while i do a mini reviews about the current web browser and well today i am going to be doing another one at the same time giving this as my first blog post on this site. By mini reviews, i mean point out the good and bad parts of the browser and who it is made for.
Today i will be doing experiences with the following browsers: Windows Internet Explorer 8 (On Vista and 7), Mozilla Firefox 3.5 (On Vista, 7, and Mac OS 10.5), Safari 4 (On Windows Vista, 7, and Mac OS 10.5), and Google Chrome (Vista, 7, and Mac OS 10.5).
Windows Internet Explorer 8
Well Internet Explorer.. it needs word still. To start off on this, it’s the performance. This is one area that i think IE needs word on big time (comparing to the performance of the other browsers). Its good if your going to be doing just basic browsing and with no tabs but it’s bad if you use it all the time and the experience is not going to be as fast. Whenever i try to open a new tab, there is always this lag that annoys me on IE. Why can’t it instantly pop up like every other browser? I don’t know, it just annoying. It does that on every PC i use. Though i do not understand why this problem is on the XP and Vista versions of Windows. The problem seems to be almost fixed on the Beta and Release Candidate versions of Windows 7. As for rendering websites, it tends to break on a few of them every once in a while. The performance like i said, is good for basic needs but it’s not the best and there is always something better. The UI is nice on Windows 7. But it can be cleaner.
Pros:
Good for basic browsing
It’s improving
Windows 7 ready
Cons:
Still needs to pass the Acid 3 Test
Needs to be quicker and smoother on all aspects
UI can be cleaned up a bit.
Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Okay, Mozilla Firefox is the best browser if you want full customization and full control (well almost) of everything. It is now being supported in allot of websites. It is a great open source alternative from Internet Explorer. The browser is great. Hardly any flaws not to use it. If you don’t like the UI of the browser. Well change it. Find a theme you like and change it up a bit and make it you. There are allot of Add Ons for this browser that you can stop ads from showing up and well make your web experience how you want it. I recommend this to anyone.
Pros:
Fully Customizable
Every new version tends to keep up to date standards and features
Multi Platform (Windows, Mac, and Linux supported)
Cons:
Start up time of the browser can still be improved
Does not take advantage of the Windows 7 taskbar.
Apple Safari 4
Safari can grow into people if they tend to start using it everyday. It is included with every Mac and well it’s great for the average user or power user. It is once of the few browsers to me that still have a clean and simple UI since the start of the browser. I don’t have much to say about it but this is a really nice browser but you are restricted a bit though. On the Mac, you can only have Google on the search, you can’t add Yahoo or any other provider. While on Windows you can only choice from Yahoo and Google. I don’t see it much as a problem since majority uses Google. Plus Safari tends to crash out of no where randomly about half the time i use it. I recommend this for just about anyone to be honest. Just that there PC has to be not slow.
Pros:
Starts up really quick
It is up to date with standards
Safari UI is now native on Windows.
Supports the tab feature on the Windows 7 Taskbar.
Cons:
Can be more freedom on some aspects
The performance can be a tiny tiny bit better.
Can use a bit less RAM
Not supported as many websites as Firefox
Google Chrome (3)
Okay i don’t have much to stay about Chrome at this moment since this version is still being developed so anything can happen when it officially releases. (Note: Mac version is not finished when i post this). But Safari has a very very clean UI. It’s very simple to use. The search box is intergraded with the URL box so you can just search from the URL box. I recommend this for the average user.
Pros:
The fastest browser
Can be lightweight
Multi Platform (Windows Version is stable, Mac and Linux still in dev)
Cons:
Unsure if you can trust the security of Google
The UI is not really customizable.
Well there you have it people reading this. That is my mini reviews just saying the good parts and the bad parts. (Sorry, as for Opera, yes its fast but i will test it later on once its close to be out of Beta).
